Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the seventh grade students’ understandings of nature of science (NOS). The participants were 110 seventh-grade students, selected by purposive sampling, from three secondary schools in Ubon Ratchathani province. An open-ended questionnaire in conjunction with semi-structured interviews was used to assess students’ understandings of nature of science. The questionnaire consisted of 12 items covering three aspects: the scientific world view, the scientific inquiry, and the scientific enterprise. The students’ response data were analyzed inductively to identify groups or patterns that described their understandings of NOS, which consisted of understanding, partial understanding, misunderstanding, and naive understanding. The research findings indicated that the majority of students hold naive understanding of all three aspects of NOS, particularly in scientific ideas including are subject to change, scientific inquiry, and science and technology relation. The research findings suggested that the science teachers should establish an activity-based reflective explicit instruction related to the integrated NOS and focus on the important NOS aspects in science courses.

บทคัดย่อ
การวิจัยในครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาความเข้าใจธรรมชาติวิทยาศาสตร์ของนักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษา ปีที่ 1 จำนวน 110 คนจากโรงเรียนขยายโอกาสทางการศึกษาสำนักงานเขตพื้นที่การศึกษาอุบลราชธานีเขต 4 จำนวน 3 โรงเรียนโดยการสุ่มแบบเฉพาะเจาะจง เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการเก็บข้อมูลประกอบด้วย แบบวัดความเข้าใจ ธรรมชาติของวิทยาศาสตร์จำนวน 12 ข้อ และการสัมภาษณ์แบบกึ่งโครงสร้าง โดยครอบคลุมธรรมชาติ วิทยาศาสตร์ 3 ด้านได้แก่ ด้านโลกทัศน์ทางวิทยาศาสตร์ ด้านการแสวงหาความรู้ทางวิทยาศาสตร์ และด้าน กิจการทางวิทยาศาสตร์ วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยการอ่านคำตอบของนักเรียนร่วมกับข้อมูลที่ได้จากการถอดเทป การสัมภาษณ์ จัดกลุ่มคำตอบของนักเรียนเป็น 4 กลุ่มประกอบด้วย เข้าใจถูกต้อง เข้าใจบางส่วน เข้าใจ คลาดเคลื่อน และไม่เข้าใจ ผลการศึกษาพบว่านักเรียนส่วนใหญ่ไม่มีความเข้าใจและเข้าใจคลาดเคลื่อนเกี่ยวกับ ธรรมชาติวิทยาศาสตร์ทั้ง 3 ด้าน โดยเฉพาะในประเด็นความรู้วิทยาศาสตร์สามารถเปลี่ยนแปลงได้ วิธีการ แสวงหาความรู้ทางวิทยาศาสตร์ และความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างวิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยี ผู้วิจัยจึงขอเสนอแนะว่า ครูควรจัดกิจกรรมการเรียนรู้วิทยาศาสตร์ที่เน้นหรือบูรณาการเกี่ยวกับธรรมชาติวิทยาศาสตร์และชี้ประเด็น ธรรมชาติวิทยาศาสตร์ในประเด็นที่สำคัญให้ชัดเจน
