Abstract
This research is focused on process of production and marketing of coconut shell products. The data were collected by interviewing group leaders and skilled workers of the following groups; Chaiburee Handicrafts Group in Phattalung, Ban Na Tam Group in Songhla and Srakaew Handicap Handicrafts Group in Nakornsrithammarat, including the shopkeepers stores.
The study indicated that there were many styles of coconut shell products like ornaments, furniture and utensils. Almost all were similar to foreign products and made from coconut shell. Each pieces producing-time varied from 2 3 minutes to 15 days. These works were allocated to their members and designed by their group leaders. The first, second and third groups labors were 104, 30 and 9 respectively. Every group paid labor costs for each piece of work. The first and second groups took 3% of total sale for marketing expenses and the rest took 20% for expenditure in marketing and purchasing raw materials. Most of the products were sold wholesale. About 80% of the first and second groups and 50% of the third group were exported. Each group had different strengths and weaknesses. However, they shared one strength a strong group leader and one weakness communicating with foreigners.
