The Corporate Social Responsibility of Rubber Industry in Provinces of Southern Thailand

Abstract
The objective of this research was to examine the role and concept of corporate social responsibility (CSR). The study had encompassed the problems and obstacles pertaining to CSR of natural rubber industry. The population was taken from provincial industry directory of five provinces namely Songkhla, Nakornsithammarat, Trang, Phattalung, and Satun. Sampling was based on research objective; sample size of 88 respondents were drawn from business management team and business owners. The data analysis was in line with structured questionnaire which focused on semi-qualitative with 95 percent confident. The research findings reveal the following: 1) The concept and role of corporate social responsibility, business management had confirmed that corporate social responsibility was integrated in the total business management (78.4 percent of respondents). Rubber business operation related to CSR and stakeholders was in the level of medium to high scale. 2) Problems encountered the CSR by natural rubber industry were: labor shortage 75.6 percent, community support 40.2 percent, and public sectors paid less attention to CSR, hence private sectors depended on the firms resources 32.9 percent. Problems encountered the CSR expressed by business management respondents (55.6 percent) that they had insufficient fund for the project. 25.9 percent of respondents revealed that rubber industry had different various customers that did not understand CSR explicitly; customers complaint was environmental issues 20.4 percent

บทคัดย่อ
วิจัยมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาแนวคิดและบทบาทความรับผิดชอบต่อสังคม และปัญหาและอุปสรรคต่อการพัฒนา บทบาทความรับผิดชอบต่อสังคมของธุรกิจโรงงานอุตสาหกรรมยางพารา ประชากรคือ กิจการในอุตสาหกรรมยางพารา ที่มีรายชื่อปรากฏในทำเนียบอุตสาหกรรมของ 5 จังหวัดในภาคใต้ ได้แก่ สงขลา นครศรีธรรมราช ตรัง พัทลุง และ สตูล กลุ่มตัวอย่างเป็นผู้บริหารธุรกิจ/เจ้าของกิจการ วิธีสุ่มตัวอย่างตามวัตถุประสงค์งานวิจัยจำนวน 88 ตัวอย่าง และ วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลจากแบบสอบถามที่สร้างขึ้นด้วยแบบกึ่งปริมาณ(semi-qualitative) ณ ระดับความเชื่อมั่น ร้อยละ 95 ผลการวิจัยสรุปได้ดังนี้ 1) แนวคิดและบทบาทความรับผิดชอบต่อสังคมผู้บริหาร ร้อยละ 78.4 ยืนยันว่ากิจการที่ตน ดูแลมีแนวคิดความรับผิดชอบต่อสังคม และผลการดำเนินการของกิจการยางพาราเกี่ยวกับความรับผิดชอบต่อสังคม ตอ่ กลุม่ ผูมี้สว่ นไดเ้ สียโดยรวมอยูใ่ นเกณฑป์ านกลางถึงมาก 2) ปญั หาตอ่ การพัฒนาบทบาทความรับผิดชอบตอ่ สังคม กิจการยางพาราเรียงลำดับตามปัญหาที่ประสบ ร้อยละ 75.6 เผชิญกับภาวะขาดแคลนแรงงาน ร้อยละ 40.2 มักได้ รับการร้องขอการสนับสนุนกิจกรรมของชุมชนบ่อยครั้ง และร้อยละ 32.9 ระบุว่า รัฐบาลไม่ดูแลเท่าที่ควรและกิจการ ต้องช่วยตัวเอง อุปสรรคในการดำเนินการความรับผิดชอบต่อสังคมของกิจการตามความเห็นของผู้บริหารพบว่า ร้อยละ 55.6 กิจการมีงบประมาณเพื่อการนี้ไม่เพียงพอ ร้อยละ 25.9 ลูกค้ามีความหลากหลาย ไม่เข้าใจเกี่ยวกับความ รับผิดชอบต่อสังคมที่แท้จริง และร้อยละ 20.4 การร้องเรียนจากลูกค้าเรื่องสิ่งแวดล้อม
