Socio-Economic Expectations of Local People towards Thaksin University, Phatthalung Campus

Abstract
This research aimed to evaluate the socio-economic expectations of local people towards Thaksin University, Patthalung Campus, and to identify the factors affecting the level of their expectations. Using the Stratified Random Sampling Method, the data was collected from 315 local people living surround the campus. The results indicated that Thaksin University was expected to accelerate local economy via providing chances for local people to start up new businesses, such as restaurant, grocery, laundry, private dormitory and other temporary jobs. The level of expectation of the respondents varied according to their personal characteristics, including occupation, income level, numbers of agricultural holding land and land holding conditions, the numbers of children and the distance between their home and the university. The findings also revealed that the establishment of Thaksin University has significantly led to several socio-economic changes of the local people. It was evident that 53.6% of respondents could earned more income from minor jobs. More than 85% of the samples have benefited from the developments of local economy, transportation and public infrastructure. In contrast, 92.3% of local people have lost their holding land and plantations after the establishment of the university. This was due to the government has expropriated their lands for the establishment of the university, and some of them have sold or rented their lands to the investors.

บทคัดย่อ
งานวิจัยนี้มีจุดมุ่งหมาย เพื่อวิเคราะห์ความคาดหวังทางเศรษฐกิจและสังคมของประชาชนในท้องถิ่นที่มีต่อ การก่อตั้งมหาวิทยาลัยทักษิณ วิทยาเขตพัทลุง โดยเปรียบเทียบสภาพเศรษฐกิจและสังคมของประชาชนในท้องถิ่น ก่อนและหลังมีการก่อตั้งมหาวิทยาลัย ตลอดจนศึกษาปัจจัยที่มีความสัมพันธ์กับความคาดหวังทางเศรษฐกิจและสังคม ของประชาชนในท้องถิ่น โดยอาศัยข้อมูลจากกลุ่มตัวอย่างคือประชาชนในท้องถิ่นจำนวน 315 ราย ด้วยวิธีการสุ่ม แบบชั้นภูมิ ผลการวิจัยพบว่า ประชาชนส่วนใหญ่คาดหวังว่ามหาวิทยาลัยทักษิณ จะช่วยให้เกิดการพัฒนาด้าน เศรษฐกิจและสังคม โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งในเรื่องราคาที่ดินปรับตัวสูงขึ้น เกิดการเปลี่ยนแปลงด้านโครงสร้างอาชีพ เกิดการจ้างงาน สร้างรายได้ และเพิ่มโอกาสในการประกอบธุรกิจ เช่น งานรับจ้างและก่อสร้าง ร้านค้าปลีก ร้านอาหาร หอพัก และร้านซักรีด เป็นต้น นอกจากนี้ ยังช่วยสร้างโอกาสทางการศึกษาแก่บุตรหลาน อีกทั้งการพัฒนาเศรษฐกิจ ของพื้นที่ ตลอดจนเป็นแหล่งเรียนรู้ที่สำคัญของชุมชน โดยปัจจัยที่มีความสัมพันธ์กับความคาดหวังทางเศรษฐกิจและ สังคมของประชาชนในท้องถิ่น ได้แก่ อาชีพ รายได้ ขนาดและสภาพการถือครองที่ดิน จำนวนบุตรที่กำลังศึกษา และความใกล้ไกลจากมหาวิทยาลัย ภายหลังการก่อตั้งมหาวิทยาลัย พบว่า สภาพเศรษฐกิจและสังคมของประชาชน ในท้องถิ่นมีการเปลี่ยนแปลงคือ ร้อยละ 53.6 ของกลุ่มตัวอย่างมีการประกอบอาชีพเสริมเพิ่มขึ้น ร้อยละ 86.7 ได้รับ ความสะดวกจากการพัฒนาระบบคมนาคมขนส่ง ร้อยละ 85.7 ได้รับความสะดวกจากการพัฒนาระบบสาธารณูปโภค ร้อยละ 86.7 ได้ประโยชน์จากการขยายตัวทางเศรษฐกิจท้องที่ และร้อยละ 96.2 มีพื้นที่ถือครองลดลงเนื่องจากการ ถูกเวนคืน ขาย หรือให้เช่าที่ดิน
