Worldviews and Aesthetic Force in Thai Literature (1977-2004)

Abstract
This article aims at examining the overall picture of the contemporary Thai literature during 1977 and 2004. It is found that two major factors that gave literary impetuses were consciousness of social responsibility and the value of the wisdom in the Thai context. These two factors contributed to the writers critical questions about changes that affected the systems of relationships between man and man as well as between man and nature. In addition, they criticized the decline of beliefs in the supernatural, the traditional concepts that have long sustained society. At the same time, most of their works attempted to convey desirable values. The hidden core values of these works are those of the eastern philosophy, particularly, that of Buddhism and the folk wisdom rooted in traditional rural culture. Such thoughts point to the present of the past, still very lively in public consciousness. These literary artists think that it is essential to protect these values and instill them into the public by using certain forms to compose their materials in order to stimulate reflection. Although some of these works appeared in experimental forms, their seriousness to create intellectual and spiritual force can be discerned. As a whole, one can say that the valuable and profound literary creations of this time have challenged the audiences consideration.

บทคัดย่อ
บทความนี้มุ่งจะศึกษาภาพรวมของวรรณกรรมไทยร่วมสมัยในช่วงปี พ.ศ.2520-2547 ผลการศึกษาแสดงว่า ความสำนึกรับผิดชอบต่อสังคมและคุณค่าทางภูมิปัญญาในบริบทของสังคมไทย เป็นสองปัจจัยหลัก ที่เกื้อกูลให้ ผู้สร้างงานวรรณกรรมตั้งคำถามในเชิงวิพากษ์วิจารณ์ต่อความเปลี่ยนแปลงอันกระทบต่อระบบความสัมพันธ์ ระหว่างมนุษย์ และความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างมนุษย์กับธรรมชาติ อีกทั้งความเสื่อมถอยของความเชื่อต่อสิ่งเหนือธรรมชาติ อันเป็นระบบความคิดที่เคยผดุงสังคมมาแต่โบราณ พร้อมกันนั้นงานส่วนใหญ่ก็พยายามสื่อสารถึงคุณค่าอันพึงประสงค์ คุณค่าที่แฝงไว้ในงานช่วงนี้ร่วมกันคือคุณค่าทางปรัชญาตะวันออกและพุทธปรัชญา อีกทั้งภูมิปัญญาชาวบ้าน ในรากวัฒนธรรมเดิมของชนบท แนวคิดบนฐานของคุณค่าดังกล่าว บ่งบอกความเป็นปัจจุบันของอดีตซึ่งยังมีชีวิตอยู่ ในจิตสำนึกของผู้คน และผู้สร้างวรรณศิลป์เห็นว่าจำเป็นต้องพิทักษ์รักษาไว้และปลูกฝังแก่สาธารณชนในรูปแบบ การประกอบวัสดุอย่างกระตุ้นให้คิดใคร่ครวญ ถึงแม้งานบางชิ้นอยู่ในรูปงานทดลองแต่ก็แฝงความเอาจริงเอาจังที่จะ สร้างพลังทางปัญญาแก่สังคม กล่าวโดยรวม ผลงานสร้างสรรค์ในยุคนี้ นับว่ามีคุณค่าอย่างลุ่มลึกและท้าทายการพินิจ พิจารณาของผู้รับ
