Help System fo the Online Public Access Catalog

Abstract
This research aimed to propose an appropriate model of help system that met the needs of the INNOPAC users in the academic libraries under the Office of the Higher Education Commission, Ministry of Education. Eight features of the INNOPAC help system were first investigated; a survey of the user needs of the help system as well as their opinions on the eight help system features were then undertaken. Percentages coupled with data interpretation were used in this analysis. It was found that the preferable INNOPAC help system should have the following features: 1) Access to help system should appear on every window, in an easily noticeable position, with easily understood instructions. Help information should also accompany each search command. 2) The designed system should be able to display lists of various help topics. 3) Help topics should be listed in the form of a menu in accordance with the OPAC structure. 5) In all forms of help, emphasis is on informing the users of the structure of command functions. An example of each search command, together with instructions of how to use it, should be given; online OPAC tutorial should also be provided. 6) Explanations should be in the form of an imperative sentence with concision, precision and consistency for all forms of help. 7) A menu of all relevant help topics should be displayed on the same window that displayed help information. And 8) the designed help system window should appear outside the current OPAC window.

บทคัดย่อ
การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อนำเสนอรูปแบบของระบบช่วยเหลือที่เหมาะสมและตรงกับความต้องการของ ผู้ใช้รายการสืบค้นแบบออนไลน์ระบบอินโนแพค ของห้องสมุดสถาบันอุดมศึกษา สังกัดสำนักงานคณะกรรมการการ อุดมศึกษา กระทรวงศึกษาธิการ โดยใช้วิธีการศึกษาคุณลักษณะของระบบช่วยเหลือในรายการสืบค้นแบบออนไลน์ระบบอินโนแพคผ่านทางระบบเครือข่าย และใช้วิธีการวิจัยเชิงสำรวจเพื่อรวบรวมข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับความคิดเห็นและความต้องการของผู้ใช้ที่มีต่อคุณลักษณะของระบบช่วยเหลือ ตามลักษณะการใช้งานระบบทั้ง 8 ด้าน และวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยใช้ค่าเฉลี่ยร้อยละ และการวิเคราะห์ตีความ ผลการศึกษาพบว่า ระบบช่วยเหลือในรายการสืบค้นแบบออนไลน์ระบบอินโนแพค ควรมีลักษณะดังนี้ 1) กำหนดจุดเข้าถึงระบบช่วยเหลือไว้ในทุกหน้าจอการใช้งานในตำแหน่งที่สังเกตเห็นได้ง่ายและใช้ข้อความที่สื่อความหมาย รวมทั้งกำหนดให้มีข้อความช่วยเหลือไว้ที่เฉพาะจุดของคำสั่งสืบค้นแต่ละประเภท 2) ออกแบบระบบให้มีการแสดงรายการหัวข้อช่วยเหลือที่หลากหลาย 3) มีการแสดงหัวข้อช่วยเหลือในรูปของเมนูหัวข้อตามลำดับโครงสร้างการทำงานของรายการสืบค้นแบบออนไลน์ 5) มีเนื้อหาของการช่วยเหลือเน้นการแจ้งให้ผู้ใช้ทราบถึงโครงสร้างหน้าที่ของคำสั่งสืบค้น รวมทั้งแสดงตัวอย่างและวิธีการใช้คำสั่งสืบค้นแต่ละประเภท และมีการฝึกสอนการใช้รายการสืบค้นแบบออนไลน์ 6) มีการใช้ข้อความอธิบายใน รูปของประโยคคำสั่งที่กระชับชัดเจนเป็นขั้นตอน และเป็นรูปแบบเดียวกันในทุกการช่วยเหลือ 7) มีการแสดงเมนูหัวข้อช่วยเหลือที่เกี่ยวข้องทั้งหมดในหน้าจอเดียวกันกับหน้าจอแสดงผลข้อมูลช่วยเหลือ และ 8) ออกแบบหน้าจอของระบบ ช่วยเหลือให้ปรากฏขึ้นภายนอกหน้าต่างการทำงานของรายการสืบค้นแบบออนไลน์
