Abstract

The objective of this study is to 1) investigate pattern of mate selection of middle class working women in business sector 2) examine factors influencing decision for mate selection of middle class working women in business sector in Bangkok by applying qualitative research. The sample group in this study includes 10 women who have never got married, age 25-35, bachelor degree or above and working in business sector in Bangkok. The author collected data from the sample group by applying in-depth interview and data is analyzed by content analysis. Research results indicate that mate selection is consistent with the pattern of free choice marriage which manifests by freely choosing mate by oneself based on love for each other. Love and free choice marriage will affect mate selection but, however, such mate selection may or may not lead to marriage. Research results also indicate that in order to choose mate, although love is a significant factor leading to marriage but there are other supporting reasons on which attitudes to mate selection in other respects are based including family influence, economic factor, education factor, cultural factors all of which will take part in decision making. The criteria for mate selection include value and attitude to mate selection criteria where person holding similar social characteristics including personality, security, life pattern, family economic status, education, income, occupation, reputation, respect etc. Research results can somehow demonstrate nature of society, cultures, urban way of life which is reflected through pattern of mate selection among changes in today society.

บทคัดย่อ
วัตถุประสงค์ในกาวิจัยครั้งนี้คือ 1) ศึกษารูปแบบการเลือกคู่ครองของสตรีชั้นกลางวัยทำงานในภาคธุรกิจ 2) ศึกษาปัจจัยที่มีผลต่อการตัดสินใจในการเลือกคู่ครองสตรีชั้นกลางวัยทำงานในภาคธุรกิจเขตกรุงเทพมหานคร โดยใช้การวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ (qualitative research) โดยกลุ่มตัวอย่างที่ใช้ในการศึกษามีจำนวนทั้งสิ้น 10 ราย โดย เป็นสตรีไทยที่ยังไม่เคยสมรสมาก่อนมีอายุ 25-35 ปี จบการศึกษาระดับปริญญาตรีขึ้นไป ทำงานในภาคธุรกิจ เขตกรุงเทพมหานคร ผู้วิจัยทำการเก็บข้อมูลจากกลุ่มตัวอย่างด้วยการสัมภาษณ์แบบเจาะลึก (In-depth interview) และการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยใช้วิธีการวิเคราะห์เนื้อหาที่ได้จากการสัมภาษณ์ (content analysis) ผลการวิจัย พบว่า การเลือกคู่ครองเป็นไปในรูปแบบของการเลือกคู่ครองแบบเสรี (free chioce Marriage) นิยมเลือกคู่ครองด้วย ตนเองโดยมีความรักต่อกันเป็นพื้นฐาน ความรักและการเลือกคู่ครองแบบเสรีมีผลต่อการเลือกคู่ครองและ การเลือกคู่ครองนั้นอาจจะนำไปสู่การแต่งงานหรือไม่ก็เป็นได้ ผลการวิจัยพบว่าการเลือกคู่ครองแม้ความรักจะเป็น ปัจจัยที่จะนำไปสู่การแต่งงานแต่ยังมีเหตุผลสนับสนุนต่อการมีทัศนคติในการเลือกคู่ครองด้านอื่นๆ ไม่ว่าจะเป็น อิทธิพลของครอบครัว ปัจจัยทางเศรษฐกิจ ปัจจัยทางการศึกษา ปัจจัยทางด้านสังคมวัฒนธรรมเข้ามีส่วนในการ ตัดสินใจ โดยเกณฑ์พิจารณาการเลือกคู่ครอง ได้แก่ ค่านิยมทัศนคติในเกณฑ์การเลือกคู่ครอง ผู้ที่มีคุณสมบัติต่างๆ ทางสังคมที่ใกล้เคียง ไม่ว่าจะเป็น บุคลิกภาพ ความมั่นคง แบบแผนการใช้ชีวิต ฐานะทางเศรษฐกิจของครอบครัว การศึกษา รายได้ อาชีพ เกียรติยศชื่อเสียง ความนับหน้าถือตา เป็นต้น ผลการวิจัยมีส่วนสะท้อนให้เห็นถึง ลักษณะสังคม วัฒนธรรม วิถีชีวิตของคนเมืองสะท้อนผ่านออกมาในรูปแบบของการเลือกคู่ครองท่ามกลางความ เปลี่ยนแปลงในสังคมปัจจุบัน
