Abstract
This survey research aims 1) to study the students on-campus housing needs, 2) to survey the students opinions on the environment in the Punnakan Road area and suggestions for improvement, and 3) to gather the students opinions on drug abuse, on-campus and off-campus. The population of this study is 5,442 undergraduates from all faculties of Prince of Songkla University, Hat Yai campus, except the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Nursing; they are 2nd-6th year students in the first semester of the 2001 academic year. 953 questionnaires are distributed to the samples and 853 completed questionnaires (89.5%) are returned. Frequency and percentages are used in data analysis. It is found that 1) 69.2% of the students prefer on-campus housing and 30.8% prefer off-campus housing; 44.3% prefer on-campus housing with 2 persons per room, and 31.5% prefer housing with 3 persons per room. 2) 70.1% of the students love to go to Punnakan Road, where there are diverse foods shops and service stores; 29.9% do not like to go there because it is very crowded, unsafe, and with frequent accidents. Students also suggest that more on-campus dormitories be built, canteens and food shops be built. 3) The students think 44.6% of drug abuse on-campus is cigarette; 39.9% liquor, and 15.5% are others. 41.3% of drug abuse off-campus is cigarette; 39.7% liquor and 19.0% are others.
