Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the perception of the local Hat Yai community on Prince of Songkla University (PSU) image, and their behaviors related to news exposure. The sample size was 402 including students, their parents, local administrators, entrepreneurs, the press and the public inside and outside the area of the Hat Yai municipality. Questionnaires consisted of personal information, behaviors related to their exposure to news and its image. The findings were as follows: 1) The community’s behaviors related to news exposure: 94% of the subjects received news about the PSU and 92.1% of them got it via the university media. One-third of the subjects were exposed to the news once in one to three weeks. From the university media: 69.5% of the subjects received the PSU news from the FM 88MHz radio station. The rest received the news from cutouts canvas signs, websites, brochures and posters, each of which had very close proportions of 33%-42.2% . From the mass media: 46.1% of the subjects got PSU news from radio, 18.9% from newspapers, 18.2% from television, and 17.9% from individuals. 2)The overall image of the PSU was considered good. The organization imagescored the highest, followed by teaching, academic services and research. The image related to fostering art and culture scored the lowest. The study suggested that the university should develop a more outstanding role in fostering art and culture and boosting public relations of the university s work.

บทคัดย่อ
การวิจัยครั้งนี้มุ่งศึกษาพฤติกรรมการเปิดรับข่าวสารของชุมชนและภาพลักษณ์ของมหาวิทยาลัยสงขลานครินทร์ ตามการรับรู้ของชุมชนท้องถิ่นอำเภอหาดใหญ่ กลุ่มตัวอย่างเป็นนักเรียน ผู้ปกครอง ผู้บริหารท้องถิ่น นักธุรกิจ สื่อมวล ชนและกลุ่มประชาชนทั่วไป ในและนอกเขตเทศบาลอำเภอหาดใหญ่ จำนวน 402 คน แบบสอบถามประกอบด้วยข้อมูล ส่วนบุคคล พฤติกรรมการเปิดรับข่าวสาร และภาพลักษณ์ของมหาวิทยาลัย ผลการศึกษาพบว่า 1) พฤติกรรมการรับ รู้ข่าวสาร พบว่า ร้อยละ 94 เคยได้รับข่าวสารเกี่ยวกับมหาวิทยาลัย และร้อยละ 92.1ได้รับจากสื่อของมหาวิทยาลัย กลุ่มตัวอย่างหนึ่งในสาม มีความถี่ในการรับข้อมูลข่าวสาร 1-3 สัปดาห/์ครั้ง จากสื่อของมหาวิทยาลัย พบว่าร้อยละ 69.5 ได้รับข้อมูลข่าวสารจากสถานีวิทยุ ม.อ. FM 88 MHz รองลงมาเป็น คัทเอาท์/ป้ายผ้า เว็บไซต์ แผ่นพับ และ โปสเตอร์ ในสัดส่วนใกล้เคียงกัน คือ ร้อยละ 33-42.2 การรับรู้ข่าวสารของมหาวิทยาลัยจากสื่อทั่วไป ร้อยละ 46.1 ได้ รับจากสื่อวิทยุ โดยสื่อหนังสือพิมพ์ สื่อโทรทัศน์ สื่อบุคคล กลุ่มประชากรได้รับในอัตราที่ใกล้เคียงกัน คือ ร้อยละ 18.9, 18.2, 17.9 ตามลำดับ 2) ภาพลักษณ์ของมหาวิทยาลัยโดยภาพรวมอยู่ในระดับดี โดยภาพลักษณ์ด้านตัวองค์กรมี คะแนนสูงที่สุด รองลงมา คือ ด้านการจัดการเรียนการสอน ด้านบริการวิชาการ และด้านการวิจัย สำหรับด้านการทำนุ บำรุงศิลปวัฒนธรรมมีคะแนนต่ำสุด จึงควรพัฒนาบทบาทด้านการทำนุบำรุงศิลปวัฒนธรรมให้มีความเด่นชัดขึ้น และ ควรส่งเสริมการประชาสัมพันธ์ผลงานของมหาวิทยาลัยให้มากขึ้น
