Abstract

This article examines the experiences of Muslim nonviolent warriors, focusing on the Khudai Khitmatgar (Servants of God) under the leadership of Abdul Ghaffar Khan in its nonviolent struggle against British imperialism in Gandhi’s India. It argues that their understandings of injustice and death are not dissimilar from Muslim violent fighters’. However, their understandings of the innocents and the instrumentality of violence are different. It maintains that nonviolent alternatives are possible for Muslim warriors seeking to fight the world they see as unjust, if the notion of the innocents is inclusive and the instrumentality of violence rejected.

บทคัดย่อ
บทความนี้นำเสนอการต่อสู้ด้วยสันติวิธีของชาวมุสลิมโดยใช้กรณีขบวนการ Khudai Khitmatgar (ข้ารับใช้พระเป็นเจ้า) ภายใต้การนำของ Abdul Ghaffar Khan ซึ่งเคยร่วมกับคานธีต่อสู้ด้วยสันติวิธีกับจักรวรรดินิยม อังกฤษจนทำให้อินเดียเป็นอิสระในที่สุด การศึกษานี้มุ่งชี้ให้เห็นว่า “ขบวนการนักรบเสื้อแดง” ในฐานะนักรบ สันติวิธีมุสลิมมีทัศนะเกี่ยวกับความอยุติธรรมและความตายที่ไม่ต่างอะไรนักจากคำอธิบายของฝ่ายนักรบพลีชีพ มุสลิมในปัจจุบัน จากนั้นได้อภิปรายข้อต่างที่สำคัญระหว่างทัศนะของนักรบสันติวิธีมุสลิมกับนักสู้มุสลิมฝ่ายใช้ ความรุนแรง โดยเฉพาะในประเด็นเรื่อง “ผู้บริสุทธิ์” และ “ฐานะการถือเอาความรุนแรงเป็นเครื่องมืออุปกรณ์” (instrumentality of violence) ในตอนท้ายบทความชี้ว่า ทางเลือกสันติวิธีเป็นไปได้สำหรับชาวมุสลิมที่มุ่งจะต่อสู้ กับโลกที่ตนเห็นว่าไม่เป็นธรรม หากยอมรับการดำรงอยู่ของผู้บริสุทธิ์ทุกหนแห่งและไม่ยอมรับความรุนแรงใน ฐานะเครื่องมืออุปกรณ์
