Business Information Needs and Information Seeking of Medium and Large Industrial Firms in Southern Thailand

Abstract

This research was intended 1) to study information needs, information seeking and the purposes of business information uses by industrial firms in 14 southern provinces, 2) to compare the business information needs and information seeking of industrial firms categorized by size and type of industries, 3) to study the problems involving business information seeking encountered by these industrial firms. 371 questionnaires were sent out, 180 questionnaires were completed by executives or executive representatives of the industrial firms. It was found that 1) The needs of business information by the medium and large industrial firms were not different. However, the large industrial firms significantly needed more information on stock markets than those of medium firms at .05 level. Sources of information seeking, the search resulted and information utilization by these industrial firms were not different. 2) Certain information needs, certain clusters of information sources and certain information items used by the industrial firms from 4 types of industries were significantly different at .01 and .05 level. However, the information utilization by these industrial firms were not different. As regards the problems involving business information seeking, the industrial firms viewed that the information acquired could not meet their needs: it was incomplete, inaccurate, dated and no t in the proper form for use. Besides, business information sources were scarce.

บทคัดย่อ
งานวิจัยนี้มุ่ง 1) ศึกษาความต้องการ การแสวงหา และวัตถุประสงค์ในการใช้สารสนเทศเพื่อการดำเนินธุรกิจของสถานประกอบการใน 14 จังหวัดภาคใต้ 2) เปรียบเทียบความต้องการสารสนเทศและการแสวงหาสารสนเทศเพื่อการดำเนินธุรกิจของสถานประกอบการดังกล่าวตามตัวแปรขนาดอุตสาหกรรมและประเภทอุตสาหกรรม 3) ศึกษาปัญหาที่สถานประกอบการประสบในการแสวงหาสารสนเทศเพื่อการดำเนินธุรกิจ รวบรวมข้อมูลโดยใช้แบบสอบถาม ผู้ให้ข้อมูลเป็นผู้บริหาร หรือผู้ที่ได้รับมอบหมายจากผู้บริหารของสถานประกอบการอุตสาหกรรมขนาดกลางและขนาดใหญ่ในภาคใต้ที่เป็นกลุ่มตัวอย่างในการวิจัยจำนวน 371 แห่ง ผู้วิจัยได้รับแบบสอบถามคืน 180 ชุด ผลการศึกษาพบว่า 1) สถานประกอบการขนาดกลางและขนาดใหญ่มีความต้องการสารสนเทศเพื่อการดำเนินธุรกิจไม่แตกต่างกัน ยกเว้นสารสนเทศเกี่ยวกับตลาดหลักทรัพย์ที่สถานประกอบการขนาดใหญ่มีความต้องการมากกว่าสถานประกอบการขนาดกลางอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ ที่ระดับ .05 และไม่มีความแตกต่างในการแสวงหาสารสนเทศจากแหล่งต่าง ๆ การได้รับคำตอบ และการนำสารสนเทศไปใช้ประโยชน์ 2) สถานประกอบการจำแนกตามอุตสาหกรรมการผลิต 4 กลุ่ม มีความต้องการการแสวงหาสารสนเทศจากแหล่งต่างๆ และการได้รับคำตอบในบางรายการแตกต่างกันอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ .01 และ .05 ทั้งนี้ไม่มีความแตกต่างในการนำสารสนเทศไปใช้ประโยชน์ ส่วนปัญหาที่ประสบในการแสวงหาสารสนเทศ คือ สารสนเทศที่ได้รับไม่ตรงกับความต้องการ ไม่ครบถ้วน ไม่ถูกต้อง ไม่ทันสมัย ไม่พร้อมใช้งาน รวมทั้งแห ล่งสารสนเทศที่สนับสนุนการดำเนินธุรกิจมีจำนวนน้อย
