Consumer Behavior of Local Hand – woven textile: A Case Study in Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province, Thailand

Abstract

This research aimed to study the behavior of the consumers of Southern Thai hand-woven cloth, who resided in Hat Yai district of Songkhla province. The data were collected using a questionnaire. It was found that among 710 people who used Southern Thai hand-woven cloth, the majority of them were female, married and older than 40. Most of them resided in the South, worked in government agencies, and earned less than 10,000 baht a month. Most hand-woven cloth often used by these respondents came from Ko Yo district in Songkhla province. The main reason why they decided to buy Southern Thai hand-woven cloth was its uniqueness. The cloth was bought from shops and was custom-tailored. Most respondents thought Southern Thai hand-woven cloth was reasonably priced and of medium quality. They felt proud to use made-in-Thailand products, and to be able to conserve Thai heritage and help local craftsmen. Generally, the respondents’ satisfaction level was moderate. The problems of Southern Thai hand-woven cloth included color run, shrinkage and broken seams after cut.

บทคัดย่อ
งานวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาพฤติกรรมการใช้ผ้าทอพื้นบ้านภาคใต้ของผู้ใช้ที่อยู่ในอำเภอหาดใหญ่ จังหวัดสงขลา เก็บข้อมูลโดยใช้แบบสอบถาม ผลการวิจัยพบว่าในจำนวนผู้ที่เคยใช้ผ้าทอพื้นบ้านภาคใต้ 710 คนนั้น ส่วนใหญ่เป็นเพศหญิง มีอายุมากกว่า 40 ปี สมรสแล้ว มีภูมิลำเนาอยู่ในภาคใต้ ทำงานในหน่วยงานของรัฐ และมีรายได้ต่อเดือนต่ำกว่า 10,000 บาท ผ้าทอที่ใช้ส่วนใหญ่เป็นผ้าที่ผลิตจากตำบลเกาะยอ จังหวัดสงขลา เหตุผลอันดับแรกที่เลือกซื้อผ้าทอพื้นบ้านภาคใต้คือความมีเอกลักษณ์ เลือกซื้อผ้าทอจากร้านจำหน่ายแล้วนำไปตัดเย็บ ผู้ตอบแบบสอบถามมีความเห็นว่าผ้าทอที่ซื้อมามีราคาเหมาะสมและคุณภาพปานกลาง เมื่อสวมใส่ผ้าทอแล้ว รู้สึกภูมิใจที่ได้ใช้ของไทย ได้อนุรักษ์ผ้าไทยและมีส่วนช่วยผู้ผลิต โดยทั่วไปมีความพึงพอใจผ้าทอพื้นบ้านภาคใต้ในระดับปานกลาง ปัญหาจากการใช้ผ้าทอพื้นบ้านภาคใต้ คือ ซักแล้วสีตก ผ้าหดตัวและตะเข็บแยกหลังตัดเย็บแล้ว
