เรื่องคนปลูกต้นไม้ของฌ็อง จิโอโนเป็นเรื่องของชายผู้หนึ่งชื่อเอลเซอาร์ด บุฟฟิเยร์ ซึ่งได้อุทิศช่วงเวลาในบั่นปลายชีวิตของเขาให้กับการปลูกต้นไม้ที่ละตัน ๆด้วยมือของตัวเองบนเนินเขาที่แห้งแล้งร้างไร้ผู้คนจนกระทั้งกลายเป็นป่าอันอุดมสมบูรณ์เป็นแหล่งต้นธารและดึงดูดให้คนกลับมาสร้างหมู่บ้านอยู่อาศัยอีกครั้งหนึ่ง

Jean Gionos The Man Who Planted Trees is about a man called Elzeard Bouffier, who spent the later part of this life planting trees. one by one with his own two hands on a dry and deserted hill until it turned into a rich and fertile forest, a source of streams which, once again brought the village back to life.
