Abstract
Women of Media is a study of womens roles and images presented by mass media. This topic has constantly and broadly interested academicians since 1977, the very first year of finding and compiling research on women and mass media. For the last 32 years, the results of the studies on women. Unfortunately 410 of which appear to demonstrate the tendency to present womens images in unfair manners. However, these images are only part of behavior of certain groups of women, resulting in negative perceptions of women in real life. Academicians and feminists view that this phenomenon is affected by patriarchy. As careers in mass media are dominated by men, images of women are presented according to Patriarchal structure which seems difficult to change. In contrast, the results from Media of Women, a compilation of research on womens use of mass media, show that women are a large group and they are influential mass media users. They have the power to select the mass media. They are also rational and know how to select and benefit from the mass media. Nonetheless, Should mass media of all types portray women in positive ways they would enhance social and educational perceptions toward women.
