Abstract
This research is designed to comparatively investigate the information literacy (IL) of first-year students
at Prince of Songkla university, Pattani campus through the analysis of these variables: faculty, school, province,
GPA, and experience from three courses on library use. The sample comprised 342 first-year students of the
2005 academic year. The data derived from the information literacy test developed based-on the five IL standards
of the United States Association of College and Research Libraries: 1) classification and boundaries,
2) accessibility, 3) evaluation, 4) use, and 5) law. The findings indicated that: The subjects IL was ranked at
the moderate level on all the 5 standards, high on standards 1 and 5 and moderate on standards 2, 3 and 4. The
results of the comparative analysis of the variables are as follows: The students from different faculties did not
differ on their IL of all the five standards together. It was found that students from different kinds of schools
differed in their overall IL. The students from different provinces did not differ on their IL of all the five
standards together. The students had different GPA levels differed in their IL of all the five standards together.
Students with or without previous courses on library use did not differ in their IL. The research suggested that
administrators, librarians in educational institutes at all levels in the three southernmost provinces, as well as
teachers expertise in the field of library and information science should collaborate in planning and improving
the teaching of this science while providing sufficient specialized human resources, and necessary equipment
as well as developing a curriculum in which IL is integrated into other subjects. Besides, university libraries
should be well-equipped for information search so that students can efficiently develop their IL.

บทคัดย่อ
การวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาการรู้สารสนเทศและเปรียบเทียบการรู้สารสนเทศของนักศึกษาระดับปริญญาตรี
ชั้นปีที่ 1 มหาวิทยาลัยสงขลานครินทร์ วิทยาเขตปัตตานี ตามตัวแปรคณะที่ศึกษา โรงเรียนที่นักศึกษาสำเร็จการศึกษา
จังหวัดที่นักศึกษาสำเร็จการศึกษา ระดับผลการเรียน และประสบการณ์ในการเรียนวิชาที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการใช้ห้องสมุด
กลุ่มตัวอย่างที่ใช้ในการวิจัยเป็นนักศึกษาระดับปริญญาตรีชั้นปีที่ 1 ปีการศึกษา 2548 จำนวน 342 คน รวบรวมข้อมูล
โดยใช้แบบทดสอบการรู้สารสนเทศซึ่งพัฒนาขึ้นโดยอิงตามมาตรฐานการรู้สารสนเทศระดับอุดมศึกษาสมาคมห้องสมุด
มหาวิทยาลัยและวิจัยแห่งสหรัฐอเมริกาใน 5 มาตรฐานคือ 1)การกำหนดชนิดและขอบเขตสารสนเทศ 2) การเข้าถึง
สารสนเทศ 3) การประเมินสารสนเทศ 4) การใช้สารสนเทศ 5) กฎหมายสารสนเทศ ผลการวิจัยพบว่า นักศึกษามี
การรู้สารสนเทศโดยรวมทั้ง 5 มาตรฐาน อยู่ในระดับปานกลาง ระดับสูงในมาตรฐานที่ 1 และ 5 และระดับปานกลาง
ในมาตรฐานที่ 2, 3 และ 4 นักศึกษาที่คณะแตกต่างกันมีการรู้สารสนเทศโดยรวมไม่แตกต่างกัน นักศึกษาที่สำเร็จการ
ศึกษาจากประเภทโรงเรียนต่างกันมีการรู้สารสนเทศโดยรวมแตกต่างกัน นักศึกษาที่สำเร็จการศึกษาจากประเภท
จังหวัดต่างกันมีการรู้สารสนเทศโดยรวมไม่แตกต่างกัน นั กศึกษาที่มีระดับผลการเรี ยนต่างกันมีการรู้สารสนเทศ
โดยรวมแตกต่างกัน และนักศึกษาที่มีประสบการณ์ในการเรียนวิชาการใช้ห้องสมุดมีการรู้สารสนเทศโดยรวมไม่แตกต่าง
กัน ข้อเสนอแนะจากการวิจัยคือ หน่วยงานการศึกษาทุกระดับในสามจังหวัดชายแดนภาคใต้ ทั้งผู้บริหาร คณาจารย์
ผู้เชี่ยวชาญ ในสาขาวิชาบรรณารักษศาสตร์และสารนิเทศศาสตร์ รวมทั้งบรรณารักษ์ควรร่วมมือกันวางแผนจัดการ
เรื่องการสอนการรู้สารสนเทศโดยการจัดสรรทรัพยากรบุคคลที่มีความชำนาญ การพัฒนาหลักสูตรการเรียนการสอนการรู้สารสนเทศให้ บูรณาการกับรายวิชาต่างๆ จัดหาและเตรียมสื่ออุปกรณ์การเรียนการสอนทุกระดับให้เพียงพอ
นอกจากนี้ ห้องสมุดของมหาวิทยาลัยต้องเป็นแหล่งสนับสนุนสื่ออุปกรณ์ที่หลากหลายสำหรับการสืบค้นสารสนเทศ
เพื่อพัฒนาให้นักศึกษามีการรู้สารสนเทศอย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ
