สภาพและความต้องการในการปรับปรุงการใช้ภาษาไทยของนักศึกษาในสถาบันอุดมศึกษาภาคใต้

Abstract
งานวิจัยเรื่องสภาพการใช้ภาษาไทยและความต้องการในการปรับปรุงการใช้ภาษาไทยของนักศึกษาในสถาบันอุดมศึกษาภาคใต้ครั้งนี มีจุดมุ่งหมายเพื่อศึกษาสภาพการใช้ภาษาไทยในปัจจุบันของนักศึกษา และความต้องการปรับปรุงการใช้ภาษาไทย กลุ่มตัวอย่าง จำนวน 590 คน ได้จากการสุ่มแบบหลายขั้นตอนจากนักศึกษาใน 4 สถาบันภาคใต้ ได้แก่ มหาวิทยาลัยสงขลานครินทร์ มหาวิทยาลัยทักษิณ สถาบันราชภัฏยะลา เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัยเป็นแบบสอบถามที่ผู้วิจัยสร้างขึ้นเองจำนวน 1 ชุด ดำเนินการเก็บข้อมูลในภาคการศึกษาที่ 1 ปีการศึกษา 2541 การวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลใช้สถิติพื้นฐาน t-test และ ANOVA ผลการวิจัยพบว่า 1. สภาพการใช้ภาษาไทยในปัจจุบันของนักศึกษาทั้ง 4 ด้านคือ การฟัง การอ่าน การเขียน และการพูด อยู่ในระดับปานกลาง และนักศึกษาคาดหวังให้มีทักษะทั้ง 4 ด้านอยู่ในระดับมาก เมื่อเปรียบเทียบสภาพการใช้ภาษาไทยของนักศึกษาที่มีชีวสังคมแตกต่างกันพบว่า นักศึกษาที่มีเพศ ศาสนา อายุแตกต่างกัน มีสภาพการใช้ภาษาไทยทั้ง 4 ด้านไม่แตกต่างกันอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ ส่วนนักศึกษาที่สังกัดคณะและสถาบันแตกต่างกัน มีสภาพการใช้ภาษาไทยเฉพาะด้านการฟังแตกต่างกันอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติคือ นักศึกษากลุ่มวิทยาศาสตร์สุขภาพมีสภาพการใช้ภาษาไทยด้านการฟังสูงกว่านักศึกษากลุ่มวิทยาศาสตร์เทคโนโลยี และนักศึกษาที่สังกัดมหาวิทยาลัยสงขลานครินทร์ มีสภาพการใช้ภาษาไทยด้านการฟังสูงกว่านักศึกษาสังกัดมหาวิทยาลัยทักษิณ 2. นักศึกษาทุกกลุ่มมีความต้องการปรับปรุงการใช้ภาษาไทย และส่วนใหญ่ต้องการปรับปรุงทักษะการใช้ภาษาไทยในแต่ละด้าน เรียงตามลำดับคือ การพูด การเขียน การอ่าน และการฟัง เมื่อเปรียบเทียบความต้องการปรับปรุงการใช้ภาษาไทยของนักศึกษาที่มีชีวสังคมแตกต่างกันพบว่า นักศึกษาหญิงมีความต้องการปรับปรุงการใช้ภาษาไทยในทุกด้านและโดยรวมของนักศึกษาที่มีชีวสังคมแตกต่างกันพบว่า นักศึกษาหญิงมีความต้องการปรับปรุงการใช้ภาษาไทยในทุกด้านและโดยรวมสูงกว่านักศึกษาชาย นักศึกษาที่สังกัดสถาบันราชภัฏยะลา มีความต้องการปรับปรุงการใช้ภาษาไทยในทักษะ 4 ด้าน สูงกว่านักศึกษาทุกสถาบัน และหากพิจารณาความต้องการปรับปรุงการใช้ภาษาไทยโดยรวมทุกด้าน พบว่า นักศึกษาสังกัดสถาบันราชภัฏยะลา และมหาวิทยาลัยสงขลานครินทร์ ต้องการปรับปรุงการใช้ภาษาไทยสูงกว่านักศึกษาจากมหาวิทยาลัยทักษิณอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ คำสำคัญ : การใช้ภาษาไทย, การปรับปรุงทักษะการใช้ภาษา, สถาบันอุดมศึกษา, ภาคใต้ This research was intended to explore higher education students’ current usage of the Thai language and their needs for language improvement. Through a multistage random sampling method, 590 students were selected from four institutes in Southern Thailand : Prince of Songkla University, Rajabhat Institute Songkla, and Rajabhat Institute Yala. The research instrument was a questionnaire designed by the researcher. The data was collected during the first semester of the 1998 academic year, and was then analyzed using basic statistics, t-test, and ANOVA. The findings were as follows : 1. The students’ listening, reading, writing an speaking skills were at a moderate level while their expectations to attain these skills were at a high level. A comparison of students’ language skills, with respect to differences in sex, religious denomination and age, revealed no significant differences. Students from different faculties, and universities/institutes differed significantly in their listening proficiency; that is, health science students had a higher listening proficiency than science and technology students, and Prince of Songkla University students had a higher listening proficiency than Thaksin University students. 2. All groups of students specified their needs of language usage improvement. Most of them wanted to improve their skills in the following priority : speaking, writing, reading, and listening. Female students’ overall improvement needs as well as needs for each skill sere found to be higher than their male counterparts’. Rajabhat Institute students has higher needs for the four skills improvement than students of other institutes. Overall, Rajabhat Institute and Prince of Songkla University students had higher needs for language improvement than Thaksin University students.
