การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาปริมาณและการใช้หนังสือที่จัดหาตามการเสนอแนะของอาจารย์ มหาวิทยาลัยสงขลานครินทร์ วิทยาเขตปัตตานี ที่จัดหาในช่วงปี พ.ศ.2531-2535 รวมทั้งศึกษาความสัมพันธ์ของการจัดหาและการใช้หนังสือดังกล่าว ในช่วงเวลา 7 ปี (2531-2537) เพื่อนำผลการวิจัยมาใช้เป็นแนวทางในการปรับปรุงการพัฒนาทรัพยากรห้องสมุด ในการดำเนินการศึกษา ผู้วิจัยได้รวบรวมและวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับ ชื่อผู้แต่ง ชื่อเรื่อง เลขเรียกหนังสือ ปีที่จัดหา ชื่อผู้เสนอและให้จัดหา และบัตรหนังสือที่แสดงการยืม-คืน โดยได้เสนอผลการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลในรูปความถี่ และอัตราส่วนร้อยละ
ผลการวิจัยพบว่า หนังสือที่มีการจัดหาและมีความถี่ในการใช้มากที่สุดคือ หมวด 300 สังคมศาสตร์ รองลงมาคือหนังสือหมวด 500 วิทยาศาสตร์ธรรมชาติและคณิตศาสตร์ สำหรับการศึกษาความสัมพันธ์ของการจัดหาและการใช้หนังสือด้วยการหาค่าสัมประสิทธิ์สหสัมพันธ์พบว่า การจัดหาและการใช้หนังสือในช่วงเวลาดังกล่าวมีความสัมพันธ์กันในระดับสูง

The objectives of this research are : to collect and to establish the distribution of books as recommended by instructors at Prince of Songkla University during 1988-1992 (B.E.2531-2535), and to study relation of book acquired and the frequency at which these books were used during 1988-1994 (B.E.2531-2537). The aim of this study is to improve the library collection development program. Research data such as authors, titles, call numbers, acquisition years, recommenders name and book cards were collected. These data were presented in frequency and percentage forms.
Research findings have shown that the books acquired and their use in descending order of quantity were in the classes of 300 Social Science and 500 Natural Science and Mathematics. When use the correlation coefficient method, the acquisition and the use of the books suggested by academic staff within indicated years were highly correlated.
